Icknield Port Loop
Places for People
Birmingham
2007

Masterplanning for a major new residential district on the west side of the city centre. The area known as Icknield Port Loop is almost an island site with canals on three of its four sides. The aim was to introduce high density family housing across the site with a range of house types from apartments, through duplex town houses, to more traditional types of terraces and semi-detached, all alongside public parks and

squares. Part of the brief was to develop more detailed designs for the Icknield Square portion including townhouses, apartments, commercial units and an auction house. The architectural style is influenced by the existing and historic canalside buildings on the site and nearby.
